The Ambassador's residence in Gaborone is beautifully situated on a plot just over a kilometre from the city centre. The city's skyscrapers are visible from the property but the heavy traffic is a comfortable distance away.
The property was purchased by the Swedish National Board of Public Buildings on behalf of the Swedish State in 1982. Measuring 385 m2, the residence rises over two floors on a plot of around 4,000 m2. The entrance level houses the reception area, which includes drawing rooms plus a dining room, library and kitchen. Upstairs is the private section with its bedrooms, guest rooms, offices and bathrooms. Alongside the main building lies a laundry and two small apartments providing overnight accommodation for household staff. There is also a garage and carport on site.
In 2004 and 2005, the National Property Board Sweden (SFV) installed two water tanks to provide the irrigation system with treated wastewater, and a new irrigation system. The water is purchased from the city's water board at a very low price. Gaborone has constant problems with its water supply due to long periods of drought. SFV renovated the kitchen in 2005. The property was also re-roofed in 2000.
