Government and residences
The Swedish crown jewels
Our Swedish castles have been shaped by the aesthetic and political values of different eras. As an administrator of castles and palaces, we have to strike a balance between preserving cultural history and adapting the buildings for modern usage. For example, we have to carefully consider our choice of materials and techniques, which applies both to ideological and technical issues. National Property Board Sweden (SFV) deals with maintenance, repairs and reconstruction related to the buildings and their parks and gardens. Each estate's own management deals with tours and other public issues.
All of Sweden's Royal Palaces and Castles and their grounds are managed by SFV. (The Royal Palace in Stockholm, Drottningholm, Ulriksdal, Haga, Rosersberg, Gripsholm, Strömsholm and Tullgarn)
We also look after other castles and palaces. (Bogesund, Bäckaskog, Gävle, Halmstad, Hovdala, Kalmar, Linköping, Läckö, Malmö, Salsta, Skokloster, Svartsjö, Uppsala, Vadstena, Västerås, Örebro and the Borgholms castle ruins)
Parks and gardens
SFV also administers parks, gardens and cultural landscapes of great cultural value. Many of the landscape and park environments we manage are national historical sites or preservation areas. They are therefore subject to special requirements on planning, care and maintenance.
